Pretty straightforward day today, all motoring with the outboard 'cos of a few bridges so it was simpler to keep the mast down. Saw cows,tweety-birds ,sheep & some quiet parts ofthe trent. The few locks I went through, on my own, were all manned. It would take some skill & expertise to do a lock solo. Passed through Newark which I have travelled through several times before by road, mainly while scuttling around the country spending all my life fitting security tagging systems in shops.

Will overnight at cromwell lock but currently moored up at the Muskham arms enjoying a bottle of red plonko & food cooked by someone else.

Just leaving t'pub mate number three rang up and arranged to meet me back at Cromwell . Good on ya Phil, had a damn good blather amonst the tranquil watery surroundings with the hubbub of A1 traffic noise in the background (all them poor souls)

Well Nick it was difficult to find you tonight...you were definitely off grid (and the satnav). When I entered the post code for Cromwell Lock it came up with "unnamed road" and wouldn't take me there.... When I eventually found the 'track' it went across dark lonely deserted fields...I half expected to come across a group of peasants with pitchforks and flaming torches. Luckily the only things that stopped me were herds of rabbits and they were not too scary as they had neither. Had a good chinwag about stuff. Lots of fun.. Phil
ReplyDeleteTrying this blogging lark again, been unsuccessful posting since I spoke to you on the towpath on Sunday at Sawley. Enjoying the chat, I too have been surprised to be surrounded by traffic crossing the bridge with my lock key and Cromwell is a lovely mooring. I took a brief video of you setting off rowing from the back of my boat ( the one with two heaters!) though I have no idea how to get it to you but will make the effort to try as you are making such an effort to follow your dream. Good luck, hope your still sleeping well.
